Nope, Spartans still live. It may not be called Sparta, but it's still Sparta. They may not be called Spartans, but they're still Spartans. The name doesn't make them, the people do.
Also, to quote your very own argument, we root for them because we like them.

I believe anyone entering into this "extinct" argument is just wasting their time. I am a fan of Jurassic Park. Dinosaurs are extinct and yet people still love them.  |
