As I’ve stated before, head gear is important. It can be the difference between a huge bump on the head + a ferocious headache (or a trip to the ER) or no such headache or such a bump. It was also protect from unwanted stings. I’ve been shot in the helmet many a time and was very glad I was wearing it and not a flimsy hat, in which case I would’ve been sorry.
However, some people don’t worry about these cases. Or perhaps they just don’t feel comfortable running a helmet, I don’t know. That’s their problem. I personally like the look of a helmet and have come to love mine. I have hit my head on a low hanging structure far too many a time…
Helmets are not very pricey. You can easily find a MICH 2000, 2001, and 2002 for at or even under $25. OpsCore helmets (Ballistic, jump, maritime, and fast) can be found at or under $30-40. The most expensive of which are the Maritime helmet. Airframe helmets are undoubtedly the most expensive, at $50-60. I believe our team should have no restrictions on style beyond a 2000-2015 NATO style requirement. Even in the military, OpsCore and Airframe helmets are run alongside MICH helmets. Are there any who agree/disagree?
I believe, however, that no team should have a strict helmet requirement. I think that there should be an eventual requirement. For instance, there could be a rule that 9-12 months of being on the team, the player must own an accepted style of helmet of their choice. This helmet could be required at some games. Also for instance, the team could decide that on certain days when slippage or falling is expected/premeditated (rainy days, or perhaps just the dangers of a cqb game, or perhaps the danger of playing in an area that has buildings with different levels) each member is required to wear (or maybe at least bring) their helmet. Or on certain days when the team is playing in a wooded environment, when such dangers are not present, the team CO and XO could leave it to the member’s discretion for soft or hard cover. These two ideas (Eventual ownership of a helmet and premeditated helmet-requirements) I believe are a wise thing for the team, but I leave it to the team’s discretion. Should our team have set parameters or no parameters?

And there's a good chart on the different Mich helmets. The 2002 is mainly made so there is still some ear coverage, but leaves room for a headset or perhaps just for someone who wants better hearing. There will be a forthcoming poll for helmet colors.
