Ok! So as for there being no great movies with a good story behind them for MARVEL. "The amazing Smiderman", "The amazing Spiderman 2". There is plenty of moral, and life behind this story. Spiderman (while still struggling with the hardships of a young man groing up) has been gifted with a great power. He must learn to control this power, and use it for right. He at least has a super power; which is more than can be said for Battman, beyond a really good brain (which real people can posses), and a lot of money (the same.)
As for the "tights". Spiderman's suit is in fact SPANDEX! He uses it both to hide his real identity, and to make his body as streamline as possible for air maneuvers. And captain America's suit is very useful to him, it is made of caviler armor. How do you think he survived the alien's gun to his midsection.
In conclusion, BECAUSE HE'S SPIDERMAN, and can do way more than battman, and beat the heck out of him in a death battle, so. . . WHAT?

The fact that the Batman has no superpower is the reason myself and many others prefer him: he's one of us. Not some random individual who was lucky enough to get powers. But as it is still a movie, I don't object to heroes having power, I just prefer when they don't. Also, the storyline for Spiderman is not an outstanding story. It is the same story in practically every single superhero movie. His parents die, he becomes a Superhero, he must control his power. That is certainly not unique. The Dark Knight presents a far more complicated storyline and well directed film. The fact that "The Dark Knight Rises", a film showing one solitary superhero, made just as much money as a film showing multiple ones, a technique which was used for the express reason of appealing to multiple tastes and bringing in more money. This shows that the people acknowledge that "The Dark Knight" series is a better story. It's not just a solitary opinion. However, this is a matter of taste. My taste is for a well written, acted, and directed film keeping the special effects at a minimal rather than the highlight of the film. Another problem I have with Marvel is that they use special effects as the main attraction of their film and to disguise the flaws in the stories and actors. Special effects are supposed to highlight a film, not be the main attraction. And in TDK, Chris Nolan does a marvelous job (forgive the unintentional pun) of focusing, not on the effects, but on the acting and the storyline. I will give you the points on CA's suit, but Spidey's... Hm. And in reality, we're not the ones that made fun of wearing underwear... DC characters are always going around in underwear. How about that? Who cares if he can beat the heck out of him? Kinda irrelevant. But I'm pretty sure good men get beat up all the time.

It all comes down to who can do their job better. Spider-man could deal with all of Batman's villains in half the movie it too Bruce too do it. Also, he would actually finish the job, unlike Batman.
As for the suits, Sider-man's suit helps him maneuver while in mid air.

That's still pretty irrelevant.
Edit: And the Joker would have killed his whole family in the process...

...Right. Anyway, Cap's suite had nothing to do with the blow to his stomach. Shield didn't even know about the aliens so how could they have prepared his suite for that. It's just a more modern looking suite than his old one. As for spider mans suite, granted he needs to hide his identity, but I don't think he picked out spandex (which are just rubber tights) for his flying. I actually liked The Amazing Spiderman 2. I didn't really care for the first one, but the second was done really well. Even if was a cliche story, it was the best cliche I've seen yet from MARVEL. As a matter of fact, in my opinion, it is the best MARVEL movie, yet. Batman would beat Spiderman with all the equipment, training, experience, and amazing gift of strategy, though. Usually, I don't really care how much a studio put into a movie. I just take the movie for what it's worth. The Amazing Spiderman was a well made story of a young, kid, superhero. I prefer The Dark Knight series, for their overpowering morals. Also their realism, both in regard to how the audience can relate, and for their realistic techniques (e.g. martial arts, the tumbler, injuries.) And what do you mean "finish the job!" Batman always does!

Okay guys. Everyone is taking this debate so seriously as to try and pack four or five arguments in one post. Even in their best efforts, they cannot prevent this from escalating or being too confusing. Also, anything not about DC or Marvel doesn't belong. I'll give you fair warning. If this keeps happening, I'll have to lock the thread.

Batman might be allot more inspiring. . . If his story was set in a real setting, LIKE spider-man. Also, their are all sorts of real situations in Spider-man where morals come into play. And he always has to look back to the memory's of his mentors, and the things they taught him to guide him trough the tough ones. Batman always prides himself in the fact that he dose not kill his enemy's. Spider-man spends allot more time saving the people that are put in danger by the villains of New York, while the whole time trying to destroy the one who is endangering them all. Which is the better hero? You are wrong about them not preparing for the aliens with Cap's suit. Ever since Thor came to earth the first time, they had been preparing. Hence the weapons of mass destruction. "With great power, comes great responsibility."

Batman may not be in a real place but Gotham was based off a real place, and Batman is and has more realistic things in it than Spider Man.
